Further to the Marcus Stewart story from earlier this afternoon some of the younger Town players have signed new deals. Justin Miller, Ashley Nicholls and Lee Beevers are all committing themselves to new contracts, in Beevers' case his first.

Goalkeepers played an important part in Town's reserves' defeat at home to Watford. Mike Salmon missed out with a knee injury, James Pullen was controversially sent off and sub Lee Hulyer made a spectacular howler.

Leading Premiership scorer Marcus Stewart has urged George Burley to raid the First Division for players as he seeks to strengthen his squad. The striker, signed from Huddersfield last season, sees the Nationwide League as a source which goes largely untapped by many Premiership clubs.

Newspaper reports today are resuscitating the Scowcroft to Leicester rumour from last month. In a new twist this story is now being partnered by the Neil Lennon to Celtic link which has dragged on ever since Martin O'Neill jumped ship to Parkhead. Doesn't sound like there is too much real in it.

As expected Town have made an improved offer to Club Brugge for Gert Veheyen. The Blues are rumoured to have bid a figure nearer to the £2 million now thought to be Club Brugge price for the player. George Burley said of the new developments: "We have put in an improved offer and must now wait and see what happens. Brugge don't want to lose Verheyen. He is their captain, a regular international and a good player."

Papers in Belgium today claim that Club Brugge will make a decision on whether to let Gert Verheyen join Town this evening. Verheyen himself is keen to join the Blues, but the club consider him an important member of their squad (he's the captain and top scorer) and don't want to let him go, especially given that they have already sold two high profile players already this season. However, the matter is being put to the whole board who are meeting this evening. Verheyen is currently training with the Belgian national side.

Town's squad numbers are out and there are one or two changes. Jim Magilton gets Mick Stockwell's number 7 with his number 11 shirt going to Marcus Stewart. Manu Thetis sees himself drop from 4 to 18 with John McGreal getting his old outsized bell-tent of a jersey. Martijn Reuser keeps number 30, while new signing John Scales is given number 15. New young Dutchmen Guillermo Graaven and Nabil Abidallah are given 28 and 29 respectively. The full list:
